Toppings for even more creaminess
Plenty of energy for the day – no wonder porridge is so popular for breakfast. Looking for a little more variety? The right topping will do the trick! Use a simple basic porridge recipe and then add the right ingredients to the cooked oats. Do you particularly love the creamy texture of your porridge? Then you could also add that to your toppings. Some ideas:
- Honey
- Maple syrup or date syrup
- Jam
- Applesauce or other fruit puree
- Almond butter
- Peanut butter or other nut butter
Fruity breakfast ideas
Fancy a little more texture? Chopped fruit makes a delicious porridge topping! Whether it's banana, pear or apple pieces, berries or peaches – there's a delicious variation for every season.
If you don't have anything fresh in the house, you can also opt for dried fruit. Raisins or apricots, dates or figs, mango or cranberries add a wonderfully fruity flavour and, incidentally, support a high-fibre diet.
Frozen fruit is also a wonderful addition. A tip to save time in the morning: Stir the frozen fruit into the hot porridge to defrost it quickly. A pleasant side effect: your porridge cools down a little and can be enjoyed straight away.
You can further refine your fruit topping, for example, with a little cinnamon or cardamom, vanilla, turmeric or cocoa powder. A dash of maple syrup or honey adds a little extra sweetness.
Do you like nuts & co.? Then try these toppings!
Nuts and other ingredients are also great toppings for your porridge. Their crunchy texture provides a wonderful contrast to the smooth, indulgent treat.
A pleasant side effect: The seeds and kernels contain a lot of protein, ensuring a particularly long-lasting feeling of satiety. They get even more flavour if you roast them in a pan without oil. Be careful, move or stir the pan regularly, as they burn quickly! Try the following variations in your breakfast:
- Walnuts
- Almonds
- Cashew nuts
- Hazelnuts
- Sesame
- Sunflower seeds
- Pumpkin seeds
- Buckwheat – although it is not a nut or grain, it can be used straight away and is wonderfully crunchy and aromatic!
Porridge with a crunchy component
Looking for toppings with a crunch? Granola is perfect for this. Making it yourself gives you extra flexibility and allows you to combine the ingredients to your own taste.
A tip for those in a hurry: Our mueslis also make a delicious topping for your porridge!
Something new every now and then: Savoury porridge
Do you love a savoury breakfast beyond fruit, honey and the like? Porridge is just as versatile! Savoury toppings give the rather neutral-tasting porridge lots of exciting flavour components. For example, you can give your breakfast an Asian touch with a dash of soy sauce, chopped spring onions and roasted sesame seeds. A fried or poached egg also goes wonderfully with it. Avocado is another delicious ingredient that also enhances the creaminess of the porridge.
We wish you bon appetit!
