With a view to the upcoming federal election on February 23, we are sending a clear signal for democracy and European values: Effective immediately, the European flags will once again fly on our factory buildings in Elmshorn. This underscores our commitment to an open society, diversity, and the fundamental values of our democracy.
"We raised our flags last year during the European elections. Then, as now, we want to send a message. Not all parties support the idea of the European Union, which is a globally unique peace project. Some parties want to abolish the euro, our common currency, or even lead Germany out of the EU. That would be a devastating signal not only for peace in Europe, but also for our prosperity. We, as a company with the ambition to market our products in other European countries, also need an economically strong and united Europe," said Dr. Friederike Driftmann-Egelhof, Managing Director of Peter Kölln GmbH & Co. KGaA.
"I am convinced that parties that rely on nationalism, that exclude, and that stoke fears, will not contribute to solving current social and economic problems. Only the democratic centrist parties can do that," Driftmann-Egelhof continued. "With this campaign, we not only want to demonstrate our stance, but also remind citizens that exercising their right to vote has never been more important. We want to encourage everyone to actively live democratic values and to view voting as a fundamental right and privilege in a free society."
From February 24th, the Kölln flags will return to their original place.
