Calling all oat explorers, young and old!

Great to have you here!

Here at Kölln, we love oats – and we'd like to take you on an exciting journey through the world of this special grain. Here you can find out everything about Kölln oats: from sowing and harvesting to processing into our Kölln oat flakes.

From oat grain to Kölln flake – the way to your bowl

Every day, 10 to 15 trucks roll into the Peter Kölln mill in Elmshorn to deliver fresh raw oats. But before the grains become our popular Kölln oat flakes, the oats have to undergo a small transformation! First, the oats are thoroughly cleaned and sieved to remove any small stones, straw or other impurities.

To ensure that the kernels can be further processed perfectly, they are treated with heat, just like in an oven – this is called kilning. As oats are protected by a hard, indigestible husk, the next step is dehulling. The husk is removed in a special dehuller, leaving only the valuable oat kernel.

The kernels are then treated with steam and gently dried to ensure the quality of the flakes. Now it's time for the actual processing: For Regular Rolled Kölln Oat Flakes, the entire oat kernel is rolled flat. For Delicate Kölln Oat Flakes, the kernels are first cut into small pieces and then rolled into fine flakes.

And voila – the Kölln oat flakes are ready! Ready for your muesli, porridge or whatever else you can think of.

Strong and smart – why oat flakes are a real power food

Our oat flakes are made from the whole oat grain, making them a true wholegrain product. Whether they're regular rolled, delicate or easily soluble, they naturally contain many nutrients: carbohydrates for energy, fibre for digestion and plant-based protein for strong muscles as well as vitamin B1, iron and magnesium – everything your body needs to get going.

But let's be honest: Oat flakes aren't just healthy, they also taste amazing! And the best part? You can combine them in new ways! Be a muesli inventor and mix your very own breakfast creation – with nuts, fresh fruit or even a hint of chocolate. This way, every day starts with a new, oat-fuelled taste experience!

The Oat Seasons Game (only in German)

Consolidate your knowledge about oats, answer questions and earn delicious ingredients for your breakfast cereal.

The Oat Seasons Game can be played by 1-3 players and lasts about 15-20 minutes.

How to play

The youngest player goes first. He/She chooses a playing piece and moves it to the starting space; it continues in clockwise direction.

The game starts when everyone has chosen a playing piece. You can always recognise whose turn it is to play by the fact that the playing piece jumps up and down.

Now roll the dice by "swiping" it and advance the corresponding number of spaces.
