After saffron, it is the most valuable spice in the world: vanilla! It comes from the pod-like capsule fruit of a tropical climbing orchid and has a long, exciting history: the Aztecs revered it for its unique taste - it was even so valuable that it was given as a tribute to the Aztec ruler at the time.
After harvesting, the vanilla pod goes through a “sweating treatment” – fermentation. Only then does it develop its brown-black color and unmistakable aroma. Vanilla extract is a highly concentrated liquid form - perfect for an intense taste.
