bourbon vanilla

After saffron, it is the most valuable spice in the world: vanilla!  It comes from the pod-like capsule fruit of a tropical climbing orchid and has a long, exciting history: the Aztecs revered it for its unique taste - it was even so valuable that it was given as a tribute to the Aztec ruler at the time.

After harvesting, the vanilla pod goes through a “sweating treatment” – fermentation. Only then does it develop its brown-black color and unmistakable aroma. Vanilla extract is a highly concentrated liquid form - perfect for an intense taste.

Worth knowing

The name “Bourbon vanilla” comes from its original growing area: the Île Bourbon. Today the term stands for vanilla from the Indian Ocean, especially Madagascar, which is considered the main producer. Bourbon vanilla is known for its intense, harmonious scent and taste - which is exactly what makes it the perfect aroma upgrade for our Kölln cinnamon oat pillows! Tip: The delicate aroma develops particularly well with milk.
