Cornflakes – the absolute classic when it comes to breakfast. But did you know that cornflakes probably came about by accident? At the end of the 19th century, cooked cereal porridge was left overnight, pressed through a roller the next day and then dried – voilà: the first cornflakes were born!
Today, cornflakes are a crunchy breakfast product made from boiled, rolled and dried corn. They are particularly popular with milk or fruit juice – but they also make a crunchy snack on their own!
What are cornflakes made of?
Since cornflakes are made from the degerminated corn kernel, they consist largely of carbohydrates. In addition to the classic, unsweetened versions, there are now many flavours – from sweetened cornflakes to chocolate, honey or nuts.
