Figs

Figs are real sun worshippers. Fig trees originally come from the Orient, but today they grow in many warm regions – especially around the Mediterranean, where they are in season from July to November.

What makes this plant so special? A fig tree bears male and female flowers simultaneously and produces three generations of inflorescences per year. That means: longer harvest times and lots of figs!

Dried figs – even sweeter, even more intense

In addition to the fresh variety, figs are a popular ingredient in Oriental cuisine – whether for cooking, baking or simply as a snack. However, most of the harvest is dried, which gives the fruit:

  • its typical flat shape and brown colour
  • a long shelf life thanks to natural fructose
  • an even sweeter and more aromatic taste

The dried and chopped figs in Kölln Oat Muesli Fruit – No Added Sugar come from Turkey. They are part of a colourful mix of 10 different fruits – for maximum variety and natural taste.

Worth knowing

Did you know that figs aren't actually “real” fruits?

Botanically speaking, figs are actually false fruits. The real fruits are the small yellow seeds hidden in the pink to red flesh. Learned something new again!
