How is honey actually made?
Foraging bees collect flower nectar and pass it on to the hive bees. In the hive, the honey loses most of its liquid and begins to ferment. This develops its characteristic scent, taste and golden yellow colour. Shortly before final maturity, the hive bees close the honeycombs with wax caps. Once the honey is fully ripe, the wax caps collapse – the sign that the honey is ready to be harvested.
