Currants

Currants are the unsung superstars among berries! Originally from Central and Eastern Europe and Northwest Asia, they were already growing in monastery gardens in the Middle Ages. Today, they are at home in almost every country with a temperate climate – and for good reason. Their variety of colours and flavours makes them simply irresistible.

What makes currants so special?

Currants grow in panicles and are studded with small, crunchy seeds – completely natural, as they should be. When harvesting, each individual berry is carefully picked by hand to protect its delicate skin. Thanks to state-of-the-art freeze-drying, the full flavour and power of the vitamins are preserved.

Our currants at Kölln come directly from Central Europe, where they can really flourish under the summer sun. These fresh, sun-ripened berries refine our Kölln Oat Porridge Berry and Kölln Oat Granola Crunchy Berry. A treat that will sweeten your day!

Worth knowing

There are around 50 different varieties, ranging from red and pink to white and black. Most famous? The red and black berries. Redcurrants captivate with their sweet and sour freshness, while blackcurrants have a tart flavour.
