Palm oil

It is not without reason that palm oil is one of the most important vegetable oils in the world: it is particularly rich, has a neutral taste and ensures that our Kölln crunchy mueslis retain their distinctive crunchiness.

But we are also aware that palm oil cultivation brings challenges. That's why we are committed to sustainable solutions. In 2013, we decided to switch to RSPO-certified palm oil – and have been going one step further ever since. Since 2014, each of our Kölln crunchy mueslis has contained only RSPO-certified palm oil according to the "segregated" model. This means that our palm oil comes exclusively from sustainably managed plantations and remains free of non-certified products throughout the entire supply chain.

But our commitment does not stop there. Through our membership in the Forum for Sustainable Palm Oil (FONAP), we are actively working to improve cultivation conditions. In addition, since 2020 we have been investing in the MARIPOSA Fund, which supports smallholder farms in Latin America. A large proportion of our palm oil already comes from a supplier who is committed to this initiative.

Why palm oil? A look at the facts

Did you know that oil palms are the most efficient vegetable oil supplier? At 4 to 6 tons of oil per hectare, their yield is up to six times higher than that of rapeseed or sunflower oil. That means: less area, more yield. In addition, palm oil is an economic livelihood for millions of people in the growing areas – especially in Indonesia and Malaysia, which account for around 85 % of global production. That is why we are committed to ensuring that palm oil is produced not only economically, but also ecologically and socially sustainably. Our goal: a responsible use of palm oil that protects both the environment and the people in the growing areas.
