The all-rounder among grains. Wheat is not only one of the oldest but also one of the most versatile grains in the world. It found its way to Europe around 7,000 years ago – today it is hard to imagine our diet without it. Whether as flour, semolina, flakes or even as wheat beer – this sweet grass can do it all.
With its high gluten content, wheat ensures the perfect consistency in bread and pasta. No wonder it is considered the bread grain. You can find it in various forms in our products, for example, as an ingredient in the crunchy pieces of our Oat Granolas. And the best part? Our organic wheat comes from 100 % German organic farming, while the conventional wheat for our crunchy pieces comes exclusively from Northern Germany.
The round ears of wheat can produce between twenty and forty grains – and it is precisely these that provide the basis for everything that is made from wheat. In addition to bread and pasta, wheat is also processed into pure starch, brandy or wheat beer.
By the way, the name “wheat” comes from the Old English word "hwæte", which is related to the Proto-Germanic word *hwaitjaz. It is thought to mean "that which is white" – a reference to the light colour of the wheat grain and the flour made from it. Wheat flakes, on the other hand, have a strong, white-brown appearance – and provide that extra bite in many of our products.
